Dr. John Upledger
What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy was developed by Dr. John Upledger. He was both an osteopath and Professor of Bioenergetics at Michigan University.
CranioSacral Therapy is now one of the fastest growing practices within alternative medicine. Based on the theory that just as the heart has a pulse and the lungs have rhythm, the spinal fluid encasing the brain and spinal cord has movement. (CNS)
There are many regions within the body to measure and perform a re-set or “Still Point” for your optimal health. Skilled hand measures Symmetry, Quality, Amplitude and Rate, referred to as (SQAR).
This is a very new school of holistic modalities, when compared to Traditional Chinese Medicine, for example.

How it works
Upledger discovered that, much like other systems within the human body, a pulse runs through the fluids that surround our craniosacral system. This fluid cycles through the system about six to ten times a minute and causes tiny movements within the cranium. “It’s a hydraulic system,” “There has to be an optimal circulation, which depends on constant mobility,” says Dr. Upledger When the membranes and lubricating liquids lose their freedom to glide freely, ailments and dis-ease will begin to manifest. Craniosacral therapy helps the body re-establish an unobstructed wave, which will relieve any unhealthy symptoms.
Upledger developed a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body by re-setting and creating a still point in the fluid which encases the CNS – brain and spinal cord. The actual pressure applied to the patient is equal to a nickel resting on the body.
