Burning White Sage or Smudging is an ancient spiritual ritual, well recognised as a First Nations cultural practice. Sage is one of the 4 sacred medicines used in First Nations traditional ceremonies.
The Sage Kit symbolizes the four Elements of Mother Earth. Four Elements of Mother Earth, Fire (Ignition), Water (Shell), Earth (Sage) and Air (Smoke).
My White Sage smudging Kit includes3 bundles of Sage, an Abalone Shell and a Smudging Feather for extinguishing the flame and lifting the smoke.
Benefits of Sage:
Spiritual Benefits: (Spirit)- First and most vital, is that burning sage clears spiritual impurities and is used to connect with us with Creator or God. Sacred sage is used to cleanse one’s heart, mind and spirit. The fragrant scent is therapeutic as the aroma stimulates the part of the brain which regulates our emotions (limbic). It is like using an eraser over a chalk board when you are not feeling well. At least, this is always been my experience. A deep cleansing.
Purifying: (Body)- Sage has germicide properties. This means sage may keep infectious bacteria, viruses and fungi at bay. Sage helps dispel negative ions in the air. The Sage creates fragrant aroma. It is used to for self purification and home cleansing. It is suggested to open a window and with the intention to let negativity flow away. Sage has been proven to improve the quality of your sleep. The First Nations people traditionally used sage to safeguard against negativity that could interfere with a quality sleep.
Healing Properties: (Mind)- Burning sage may be used as a ritual tool to rid yourself of negativity. This includes past traumas, bad experiences, thoughts or negative energies from others. Burning sage can lift one’s mood, as it is rich in compounds that activate certain receptors in the brain. These receptors are responsible for elevating mood levels, reducing stress, improving memory, with increased focus and even emotional alleviating pain.
I must add, it is important to purchase (Exchange) your Sage from a First Nations person as your Sage has been honourably harvested and with ceremony.
